I'm slightly obsessed with my new JCrew T-shirt and jacket. A classier version of the Rolling Stones iconic symbol.  I love that it adds a little edge to any outfit. I'm wearing it with this fun pop of color jacket, but  even white jeans and a denim jacket would look fun. Throw on a scarf if it's chilly.  I'm already planning my next outfit!

I LOVE THAT BOOTCUT JEANS ARE BACK!! (I LINKED THE PAIR I'M WEARING.) AT LEAST FOR MY BODY, THEY ARE MORE FLATTERING (AND I'VE HEARD JENNIFER ANISTON SAY THE SAME THING, SO I FEEL VALIDATED. HA!) I HAVE THEM IN TWO DIFFERENT STYLES RIGHT NOW. THIS DRIES VAN NOTEN BLOUSE IS FROM LAST SEASON, BUT THERE ARE SIMILAR ITEMS OUT THERE THAT ARE ABOUT $600 LESS, LIKE THIS TOP I JUST ORDERED FROM NORDSTROM.

ONCE A SCHOOL STAPLE, STILL A CLOSET STAPLE

Back to school season will forever conjure up memories for all of us. The classic, red plaid pattern will forever be associated in those snapshots filed away in my head. Red plaid connotes a nostalgic feeling for me. Plaid is collegiate, old-school prep.  

I wanted a modern feel to the classic prep-school plaid.  Make it out of silk and let it drape beautifully? Sold.

For a similar look, but phenomenally less expensive, look no further than Old Navy!  When picking a plaid that drapes perfectly, I was told to pay attention to the material.  You want a thin, soft fabric.  Especially for layering under a sweater (check out the look) or layering over a top (again, check). Take a look at other plaid/ or plaid-like ideas below.

This is classic California winter attire. We keep parts of our bodies warm, not necessarily our whole body! I love a soft, comfortable beanie or hat. It's the best way to hide a bad hair day, keep cozy, look put together, but not like you're trying to hard. This one from FreePeople is like butter. And it works with browns and blacks and the "in" colors of the season: olive green and ivory.  And the Free People Top is on sale!!

WEAR YOUR BIB!!

I'm loving the added glamor bib necklaces provide. They can take a plain dress and make it fabulous. Or a casual outfit (click on items in picture to get details- from $4 similar earrings all the way to the awesome AG denim skirt on SALE) and make it pop.  Today, on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Nikki wore a great necklace.

I love this time of year.  It's still okay to get away with summer pieces in my wardrobe, but start to incorporate some fall essentials. One of my main staples has always been a great plaid top.  Sometimes it's an inexpensive flannel to add color (and warmth!) to an outfit. Other times it's a really gorgeous fabric that hangs well and layers beautifully.  Paige Denim has a viscose blouse that I can't get enough... I'm sure you'll be seeing me post about it more often. And Equipment has a specific way of mixing the down home feel of plaid with the high fashion blend of silk. The look is impeccable. 

Yesterday, we went on a lovely walk through the Skirball Cultural Center. I needed something easy and functional without losing all fashion sense. Pairing the Paige "Trudy" (comes in several colors) blouse with off- white skinny, cropped jeans and a few layering tanks. I finished the look with layering tanks.

I became obsessed with Ipanema's Cleo Pyramid sandals when my girlfriend from high school was visiting. We went shopping at Fred Segal and she snatched them up. Nothing says carefree-late-summer like a cute romper.

I was weary to jump on the trend... I'm not a perfect figure. If something clings in the wrong spot, it's not what one would call "attractive." But, I tried this romper in a medium size and it has become my new go-to.  I'm writing this post because I'm getting ready to go to a child's birthday party and thought I'd get one more wear out of it before I hand it over to the dry cleaners again. Personally, I love low heels and flats, but sometimes, you must have a great heel for an event.  I've been wearing this one all summer to elongate the leg (or aka makes you look thinner) AND IT'S UNDER $80.
